Artist Statement:

Yağızhan Çalışkan, born in Ankara in 1992, embarked on his artistic journey by joining Ankara Anatolian Fine Arts High School in 2006. His commitment to the arts led him to earn a full scholarship to the Department of Plastic Arts and Painting at Yeditepe University, Turkey, in 2010. He has actively contributed to the art scene, serving as an operator at Artura Art Gallery from 2011 to 2013 and as a gallery artist at Kopart Art Gallery in 2015.

In 2016, Çalışkan delved into the Master's program in the Department of Plastic Arts and Painting at Yeditepe University. There, he worked as a research assistant, specializing in printmaking under Ergin İnan and lithography under Sinan Demirtaş. His artistic exploration continued as he completed his Master's thesis titled "Surrealist Tendencies in Turkish Contemporary Painting Art" in 2019. Transitioning to the Doctoral program in Art Proficiency at the Institute of Fine Arts of Marmara University, he deepened his scholarly pursuits.

In 2020, Çalışkan showcased his artistic prowess through his first solo exhibition titled "Terra Incognita." This was followed by his second solo exhibition, "Fractus," in 2023. Within his Istanbul studio, Çalışkan passionately explores the complex relationship between human existence and nature, approaching his work with a multidisciplinary lens. He perceives the creation of humans as nature's endeavor to understand itself, seeking emotional intensity in his works without establishing a specific time and space relationship.
